Every month the Internet For Lawyers' free Internet legal research newsletter delivers this kind of useful information to your e-mail inbox.

CEB Offers California Attorneys Broad Range of Daily e-Mail Summaries

UPDATE October 2005: CEB No longer publishes this product. In a notice posted on their Web site, CEB notes that, "[this] case notification service is no longer economically feasible to produce."

California attorneys will be interested to learn about CEB's c@sesfirst! service--a service that sends daily email summaries of opinions from:

  • California federal and state courts
  • U.S. Supreme Court
  • California Attorney General
  • State Bar Court and State Bar Ethics Opinions

Users can limit the cases received to any of the courts or to all and further limit the emailed cases to specific practice areas--by selecting from a list of 50 categories. To read the full case, simply click on the link.

A complimentary subscription to c@sesfirst! is available to all current CEB Reporter subscribers, otherwise the annual cost is $149/year for up to 10 law categories or $169/year for unlimited topic choices.

C@sesfirst! also provides an "Archive Search" where you can search for cases by case name or category, for the last:

  • 7 days
  • 14 days
  • month
  • 90 days
  • 6 months
  • back to 12/3/01

While there are some free services that send email case summaries, CEB's c@sesfirst! service is the only one that I've seen to include Attorney General, State Bar Court and State Bar Ethics opinions or to have a searchable archive by case name or topic.
