Google Once Again Recognizes USPS Tracking Numbers
Share this

Google once again automatically recognizes US Postal Service (USPS) tracking numbers typed into the Web Search box. When the tracking numbers are auto-recognized, a link is provided on the results page to track the status of the package.

When the USPS switched from 20 digit tracking numbers to 26 digit tracking numbers, Google was no longer able to recognize them.

If you want to track a package by pasting its tracking number into the Google Web Search box, you will have to know the carrier handling that package. While Google recognizes these 22 digit numbers as package tracking numbers, it cannot determine whether the 22 digit number entered is a USPS or FedEx tracking number so tracking links are provided for both possibilities.
